What's Involved?

Lying on a comfortable bed, 3 ECG electrodes are placed on your chest. A finger sensor is applied at the start so that the therapist can check the readings and make adjustments for the most effective treatment.

A series of inflatable pressure cuffs are wrapped snugly around the calves, lower thighs, upper thighs and buttocks. As the therapy begins, air fills the cuffs and the pressure will squeeze your legs and buttocks. The cuffs will inflate and deflate, gradually feeling tighter until the treatment pressure is reached.

The EECP system inflates and deflates the cuffs creating pressure, pushing blood from the lower limbs up towards the heart.

Each wave of pressure is timed to the heart’s beat, so that the increased blood flow is delivered to the heart when it rests, maximising blood flow to the heart’s arteries.

When the heart starts to pump again, all the cuffs deflate at the same time. This lowers the resistance in the blood vessels of the legs and decreases the amount of work the heart has to do to pump blood around the body.
